Bhima Yunusov is a Composer, multi-instrumentalist based in Berlin.

 

The hallmark of Bhima is the unique work with rhythm. He combines folk percussion riffs of various countries (such as Japan, China, Korea, Africa, India, etc.) with modern, industrial sound and neo-classical melodies. He is also known for his work with breath and voice, with the help of it he creates unforgettable soundscapes and immerses us on a meditative journey.

neoclassical, classical, experimental, downtempo, abstract, ethnic music, trip-hop, industrial, noise etc.

Contemporary ballet 'Solaris'

In February 2018, Bhima's debut Ballet ‘Solaris’ was released. The author of idea and choreographer: Yuri Smekalov, leading choreographer of the Mariinsky Theater. In this work, Bhima took an innovative approach to create the structure of the Play. All parts are interconnected and flow one into another, creating a strong sense of immersion and presence. In this ballet, the composer for the first time demonstrated on the big stage his unique style of working with percussion rhythms and voice, creating powerful ‘ritual’ compositions on their basis. Here we can also hear an unusual arrangement of the Prelude in B minor by Johann Sebastian Bach / Siloti performed by Bhima.

Full-length documentary movie 'Priboi'

On November 8, 2018, the movie ‘Priboi’ was released.  Bhima was the leading composer in this work. The Movie has won numerous awards at the surf culture festivals, in particular the award for the best soundtrack.

 

Contemporary ballet 'Wind-Up Bird Chronicle'

At the end of 2019 in Maribor (Slovenia) in the frames of the international festival Dance Open, Yury Smekalov performed his short ballet The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. The piece was created for the Japanese dancer May Nagahisa. That is why a traditional Japanese theme of the Kabuki Theater was chosen. In this work, Bhima used a combination of Japanese melodies and rhythms of his own composition and industrial trip-hop sound.

The number of the figure skater Elizaveta Tuktamysheva was put on this music. Elizaveta took the second prize at the World Figure Skating Championships, the third prize at the Russian Figure Skating Cup 2020 and won the gold medal at the Moscow stage of the 2020/21 Grand Prix with this skating program.


 

Contemporary ballet ‘1234’

Premiere: September 2019

 

Four choreographers from Germany, Portugal, Israel and Russia, who have worked with the best ballet troupes in their countries, are creating a performance together for the first time under the guidance of Yuri Smekalov. The plot of the performance is woven from associations of four numbers (1,2,3,4), common to all inhabitants of the world and unique to each of us.

This ballet was a great experiment for Bhima, as he worked with four choreographers at the same time. The hallmark of the ballet is breathing work, this technique is fully revealed in the 1st and 4th parts of the play. It should also be noted the work with strings, the parts of which acquire a completely unusual sound, turning either into the noise or into the voices of birds. All the music in this work directly reflects the choreographer's ideas, it turns the action into a living canvas.

Performed by Vladimir Shklyarov, a principal dancer of Mariinsky theatre.

 

The peculiarity of this work lies in the fact that its basis is the text that Bhima was declaring during the performance. The music was changing, echoing the text, it created a feeling of chaos and uncontrollable thoughts. Another striking element of this performance was the scene where Bhima taps a rhythm with drumsticks on wooden bars that formed a circle around Vladimir Shkoyarov, symbolising a trap of thoughts.

Movie ‘A Song Of Hope’

A documentary about the plight of the African country of Guinea-Bissau. Abandoned albino children living in fear of falling victim of rituals, starving to death and the lack of basic health care provision. But there is a way out of all this. There is hope. «A song of hope» is a piercing and candid portrayal. The quintessence of feelings that you experience first-hand, that you interpret in your own different way, made into a film aimed at telling you a true story.

 

 

Album "Khoshkhonog" by Russian rapper 'Haski'

Together with the famous rapper Haski, Bhima created the track "Nikogda-Nibud", which became the track of the year (2020) by the magazine "The Flow". It should be noted that this album is an iconic work of Russian hip-hop. Bhima produced 6 tracks on this album.

 

Movie ‘Empty Place’

A film that reveals the art of photographer Dmitry Pryakhin, his perception of life. The music here is a single sound canvas, representing a certain concert similar to classical music. The footage echoes the sound, creating a sense of action that takes place here and now. This is a confession, a requiem, a triumph of art and love.

Project " Pomosch"

2020 December

" Pomosch"  is the world's first mobile application of targeted and transparent assistance. The project is like the assemblage point of the new time, uniting generations. The first target group for targeted assistance is the elderly. The goal of the project is to provide a decent life for the elderly in Russia. Bhima was working on the idea to combine the full power of Project " Help"  into the big choir. The choir was recorded by Irina Gorbacheva, Haski, Nikita Kukushkin, artists of Gogol Center and others.

Film "NOISE"

Director: Danielle Rybakian 

Danielle Rybakian's film "Noise" was included in the out-of-competition program of the Moscow International Film Festival MIFF in the category “Young and Beautiful”. Music leads us through the lush nooks and crannies of poverty in the districts. The sound is saturated with the atmosphere of the streets, nightlife and rap battles.
